Cary Grant Movie Recommendation #3

Penny Serenade (1941)- 1 hr 42 mins

For the third Cary Grant recommendation, I've chosen rather than a comedic film a drama.

A couple, reporter Roger and Julie (Cary Grant and Irene Dunne, who did two other films together, both rom-coms), fall in love and get married, but while living in Japan, Julie suffers an accident where she looses both her baby and the chance of having any children. They adopt a little girl, Trina, and Roger starts a small town newspaper, but joy and tragedy strike as they fight to keep Trina, the paper from folding, and their marriage from failing.

The film offers a mixture of both tender and lighthearted moments, mostly due to the character of Applejack (Edgar Buchanan) that make it particularly memorable.
