Weekend Watch 1/5-1/6

What I’m watching this weekend: The Major and the Minor (1942)- 1 hr 41 mins

The film that marked the great Billy Wilder’s first time as a director, The Major and the Minor is a sweet comedy centered around a serious mistake in identity.

Ginger Rogers stars as Susan Applegate, a girl ready to leave the big city and return back to her home town in Iowa. The only problem is that Susan doesn't have enough money for the train ticket. To “fix” the issue, she disguises herself as a minor and pays the half fare. However, when the conductor gets suspicious, she hides in what ends up being a Major’s drawing room. Major Kirby (Ray Milland) takes the supposed “child” under his wing, even going so far as to take her to his military academy when the train is held up. A string of hilarious situations ensue as Susan has to keep playing the role of “Sue Sue,” while at the same time falling in love with the oblivious Major.
