Weekend Watch 11/23-11/24
What I’m watching this weekend: The Whole Town’s Talking (1935) - 1 hr 35 mins
Sheepish advertising clerk Arthur Ferguson Jones leads a quiet and unassuming life, that is until he is mistaken for gangster "Killer Mannion." Then the shy little clerk's world is turned upside down!
The films features a colorful cast which includes character actors Donald Meek and Edward Brophy as well as the wonderful Jean Arthur as Killer's "partner in crime" and the girl Jones has been too shy to ask out. The Whole Town's Talking is a delightfully comedic crime film! Edward G. Robinson is perfect as the decidedly different doppelgangers. He is lovable as Jones, who wins the audience's sympathy while also making them laugh. And, as expected, the star of films like Little Caesar (1931) also does not miss at playing another quintessential hoodlum!
