Clark Gable Movie Recommendation #1

Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)- 2 hrs 12 mins

The winner of Best Picture (1935), Mutiny on the Bounty stars Clark Gable as Fletcher Christian, a lieutenant on the HMS Bounty. William Bligh (Charles Laughton) is the despotic Captain of the ship, who after going too far in his abuse of the crew, is eventually overthrown by a mutiny lead by Christian. However, it doesn't end there. Bligh is ready to exact his revenge on the Tahiti-bound crew.

Everything about Mutiny on the Bounty is top notch: the score, sets, script, and acting (three of the cast members, including Gable and Laughton, were nominated for Best Actor). But perhaps the best thing, in my opinion, about the film that makes it more than just good, is the colorful roster of character actors, something that sets this film apart from it successors. They help make the story more than a struggle between Christian and Bligh. It’s like making something that was 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional.  And although the film might not be as historically accurate as one would like, all of these otherwise wonderful aspects make any flaws forgiveable. Enjoy!
