Tyrone Power Movie Recommendation #2
Nightmare Alley (1947)- 1 hr 51 mins
While working at a traveling carnival, Stanton Carlisle (Tyrone Power) learns the secret to a once highly successful mind-reading act. Carlisle's ambition takes him to the top where he feeds off of the dark fears and desires of café society where he uses these same techniques. What appears to be the height of Carlisle’s success, though, may just be the start of his demise.
Nightmare Alley is a decidedly unique and noteworthy film, if not simply because the studio tried to prevent its release. They had no interest in releasing a film that would showcase one of their biggest stars (Power) in s a role that would so dramatically diverge from his typical and successful romantic leading roles. And yet, the film became a film noir classic and one in which Power’s range as an actor was clearly proven. Power himself sought the role, and in this process, "stepped into a new class as an actor."*
