Based on John Steinbeck’s award winning novel, The Grapes of Wrath tells the story of just one of the many families who’ve been forced to leave their homes and the life they knew in Oklahoma in search of a new and better life in California. They are met with many difficulties along the way. When they finally reach this “promised land,” they soon painfully realize that it’s not what they hoped it would be. Henry Fonda plays Tom Joad, the Joad family’s recently paroled son. Tom, along with the help of his mother (Oscar winner Jane Darwell), leads the family along this journey.

Nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Henry Fonda), of which it won two, The Grapes of Wrath tells the story of the Great Depression in a way that is heartbreaking to its very core. The film's collection of enduring images allow the viewer to experience the era for themselves in ways that are moving and equally enduring.
