Ingrid Bergman
The key to Ingrid Bergman's career is to start in the glorious "middle period" and go from there. From the moment Ingrid Bergman took to the United States, she captivated both movie producers and audiences. While she had a sizable filmography in Sweden, she began in Hollywood by remaking one of her best films, Intermezzo (1939) and never looked back. From there, even after she departed from the American film industry for a time, was only a string of wonderful performances. She was a romantic leading lady in Intermezzo, Casablanca (1942), and For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943); a real life person Joan of Arc (1948) and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958); and the star of Crime and Suspense films, like Gaslight (1944), Spellbound (1945), and Notorious (1946). She had a naturalness and genuineness about her that made her appear believable in any role. It was almost as though she wasn't acting.
