Weekend Watch 2/3-2/4

What I’m watching this weekend: Love is News (1937)- 1 hr 17 mins

Love is News has been more of a recent watch for me. I came across this gem while systematically going through the films of 20th Century Fox and its contracted actors. The story begins when a newspaper reporter, Steve (Tyrone Power), is able to get private information out of an heiress, Tony Gateson (Loretta Young). In retaliation, she says that they are engaged, throwing him into the spotlight. Now Steve must experience what it is like to be constantly hounded by reporters and the victim of rumors. But as Steve and Tony get to known each other it seems likely that the rumor will come true. 

The film has a lively pace, thanks to the newspaper setting, and a great supporting cast that make Love is News a delightful screwball comedy. In fact, a remake was made several years later entitled That Wonderful Urge (1948), once again starring Tyrone Power, but this time with actress Gene Tierney as the heiress. Some enjoy that one more, but I always come back to the original. I will have both versions linked below. Whatever your personal choice, I hope that you enjoy this new-found favorite!!
